Very neat! May I ask where you got the photo of the Kerbal? It's of fairly nice resolution and doesn't have the horrible jaggies that plague most photoshop/manipulation here.

The reason it doesn't have any jaggies is because of the magical Refine Edge tool in photoshop. Seriously that thing is a miracle.

I knew it looked familiar! I find an even more precise method of cutting things out is to get the outline, feather it lightly, and then copy/erase background. So long as you don't feather it too hard, you can retain a nice outline without the blurry outlines. However if it's a dark picture or very contrasting like your original, it's hardly noticeable.
