WHy cant i dock ?!?

Hey guys ,

This is my first post and reading through these forums have been incredibly helpful in me learning KSS.

I was able to mount my first Mun mission and the subsequent rescue mission as well . Kerbals were able to put their first segment of their planned Orbital Space & Refueling station and successfully docked the first of many planned fuel tanks for future interplanetary missions !!

However I have been stuck since the last week when I am trying to dock my second hab module and (3rd of component the planned space station) ..for the love of god the thing wont dock !! I have checked every thing ..checked that they are perfectly aligned , checked that SAS is switched off both on the hab module and the space station itself ..still it wont dock .

If i right click on the docking port and select decouple .. it separates from my hab module and clicks right into position with the space station ( but then its pretty useless to me then coz its separated from my module . I cant figure out why wont it dock with my ship ... Please Help guys !!!

Both of your ports are upside down. If you pick up a port in the VAB and hit spacebar, it'll flip to an orientation where the bit that docks is on top.

Looks like your docking ports are on incorrectly. See how they are in this image?

The fact that I can see the grey "barrel" of each leads me to believe that they weren't put on properly - or that you snapped them off while docking at too high a speed or torque.

Omg thanks so much guys, that was it !!! Both my docking ports were attached with the wrong orientation . I corrected it and sent another mission up and was able to dock successfully.

Sigh .. the amount of hours i spent trying to two them together earlier ..not to mention the fact that I've put a dud port on one of my fuel pods on the space station.

Just comes with practice and experience - but you'll gain that quickly. KSP seems to teach us more from our mistakes than our successes - but failure is generally fun too.
