Deleting specific parts without breaking the game

Recommended Posts

I am having difficulty figuring out a way to delete parts from the game it self. I have quiet a few mods and there are also quiet a few parts that I do not use and wanted to get rid of them. I am thinking that it might be as easy as literally deleting the part from the folder but I am not sure if that would break the game as I do not know how the game reads part packs.

What I am afraid of is the game loading the parts and then freaking out because it cant find a certain one even though its "on the list"..........or is it really just a simple as deleting the part from the mod folder?

You can just delete the parts you don't need, it won't crash. Be aware though that any vessel in your savegame will be removed from that savegame if it uses any of the deleted parts. Also, VAB/SPH craft files won't load if they use any of these parts. But other than that, everything else will continue to function as normal.

As always, backup your savegames.

I do this all the time to reduce the load from packs I don't use. Just be aware some of the newer packs (B9, NovaPunch, etc.) will reuse textures and models for different sizes of the same part, and deleting one may keep other sizes from loading.

I have actually dumped almost the entire Squad aero pack as I almost exclusively use B9 parts. Everything works fine except the built in .crafts, which I don't use anymore anyhow.

Thanks a lot guys +rep to both.

I didn't know about the sizes and textures, I will keep that in mind.

I usually keep different sizes of the same part, so I will be ok with that, just getting rid of the ones I do not use at all, ever.

I want to shave off a few parts because I am on borderline of over-loading the game with them....plus its more organized.
