Docking in orbit of Sputnik 1

Recommended Posts

Kerbals are celebrating the 50 years of first Kerbin surveying space station by going in orbit and bringing it back home.

basic mission objective:

  • place a station holding three Kerbals in an orbit with the parameters of the first artificial satellite ever, Sputnik 1
  • launch a ship with three Kerbals aboard and dock to the station
  • collect the data and present them with a screenshot
  • take a screenshot of all six Kerbals at EVA at the same time, in front of the docked complex
  • land the docked complex on ground unharmed and take a screenshot of the guys in front of it

orbital parameters:

  • periapsis 215 km
  • apoapsis 939 km
  • inclination 65.1°

data to collect:

  • gravity at PE and AP
  • orbital speed at PE and AP
  • orbital period

restrictions: no mods allowed, just good old manual procedure and stock parts

There are no points, I won't bother with that and neither should you.

Obviously, this is not about getting lots of fuel and stuff into orbit because you have to land afterwards.

This is about good old manual docking in an unconventional orbit. I've never done something like this so I'm not sure how hard it is. It's harder than doing all this in a lower, 0° inclination, circular orbit.
