How can I get my kethane miner to the Mun?

So I have this miner and it isn't even 8 tons but I can not for the life of me figure out how to get it to the Mun. The farthest I have gotten is an orbit of 100k around Kerbin. I am still fairly new to this game so if this is a dumb question I apologize.

The launcher has three stages.

I tried adding SS boosters to the base of the rocket but it caused the center of lift to go to one side (not sure why cause I put them on symmetrically) making it too hard for my poor piloting skills to handle. I have tried different fuel tank combinations but that didn't help much either.

Any ideas for what I can try?

The landing legs a separately controlled so I am going to retract 3 of the legs and let it fall over on the wheels. I tried it on the launch pad and it seems to work pretty good. That was the only way I could think of landing it so if you have a better idea and would like to share that would be awesome.

Also now, just noticed, how are you gonna land it? "crash" down the rocket on the surface?

Add Jetissonable counterweights on the side of your miner to balance against the wheels. I used to do that with manned landers that bring rovers with them.
