Movies that inspire you to play KSP?

Well this may sound a bit corny, but there are movies/stories that give me a real urge/inspiration to play KSP. I mean to focus on the rocket buiding, mission planning and execution as a hymn to progress, technology and bravery. The kick is living the adventure of venturing off into the unknown space all crammed up inside a tin can with solar panels as opposed to the "luxury cruise" we see on star trek (also a fan, but for different reasons). A tin can where about everything can go wrong and fail, contrary to space operas where the flight itself is trivial

Am I alone here, or does it happen with you guys too?

Thumbs up for Europa Report. Brilliant movie that emulates KSP in every sense of the way ( up till the end anyway ). Now If we could only have centrifuge habitats for gravity. Oh and I loved the lander.

IIRC, it has Interplanetary Ship, staging/space-bar mess up, extreme EVA, rescue using a still-orbiting pod, duna base, kraken, and anomalies.

I thought Elysium's story was pretty poor, particularly that dodgy romance. But the world building in that movie was pretty good.

However I think KSP ruined it for me. All the questionable physics like shoulder fired missiles size of a coke bottle reaching LEO, single stage to orbit VTVL shuttle and so on kept preventing me from getting immersed.

The same thing happened with me. All I could think in the shuttle scenes was "where is all the fuel?!?!?!".

Cowboy Bebop and Sunshine are probably the two movies/shows that inspire me the most to play KSP.

I didn't care for that movie. It just seemed like a slightly more realistic (and much better) version of the Core. The science was just so dodgy (they went into orbit of Mercury for a gravity assist, among other things) and I didn't really enjoy the movie all that much. But the Icarus 2 looked nice. Too bad it didn't have proper artificial gravity.

It took KSP for me to understand what the heck was meant by launch windows and such in 2010. Imagine leaving an abandoned vessel in orbit around Jool, that, thanks to a intuitively placed docking port, becomes just the thing to give your latest mission its one chance to get back to Kerbin. While we were shown how the heck the Leonov got into Io orbit, I am still wondering how the Odyssey had enough fuel to establish orbit without aerobraking.
