How do I abort?

Recommended Posts

You need to add things to the abort action group.

Click the abort action group in action groups and click your engine.

It will give some options.

Select an option and it will execute that option when you press the abort button.

Yup - for abort sequences, you will have to add several actions in the action abort group, for your kerbals safety. Ex :

You can set it to stop your main engines and separate the command pod from the rocket, but that may be dangerous : if you rocket is broken in half (and that´s why you want to abort :P), you won't be able to stop the main engines, as they would not be part of your rocket anymore :P.

Which in return, add the neccessity to add some form of high twr escape tower to the command pod, to pull it away from the rocket when you abort. (Like on real rockets :))

It's an action group. Assign stuff to it.

Personally, I prefer to set it to separate the lander or command pod and activate it's engines. Shutting down any main engines is a good idea as well. Then I steer away from the pad (and the rising rocket-propelled debris) before popping chutes. It's fun to absolutely terrify everyone by flipping the pod upside down and slowing down hard while still going upwards, then dropping like a rock and slowing suddenly again as it rights and goes downwards.

Or if I forgot to set one up, I just pound through the stages until I'm in control of the lander, and do the above system.

Other suggestions are to activate landing gear on the lander as well, so you don't have to remember, and to make sure your command module doesn't have really heavy fuel tanks attached to it permanently.
