Natural Selection 2

Anyone else play it? Favorite side? Commander or unit, preferred weapon/lifeform? I prefer skulk with shade tactics, I love sneaking and ambushing. Never cared much for marines.

If you don't know what NS2 is it is an asymmetrical FPS RTS with two different teams. The commander/khamander of each team plays from an RTS perspective building structures for the players. Imagine playing starcraft but your marines and zerglings are controlled by real people in a FPS.

(Keep in mind the games current build has been changed alot since release, so some vids might be a bit dated.)

Commander POV:

Aliens (Kharaa) Really old but shows all but one of their classes:

Marines:

I remember it as one of the more interesting mods for halflife. I didnt know they made it into a game. I have to say its a really attractive concept although I guess it relies on striking the right balance in the game design a lot. That and having a really good and simple system of online servers and a community, because you have to have a certain amount of people for this game to be any fun...

Peaks about 2.5K players on weekdays average, likely more on weekends. And for balance it had a rocky start, a lot smoother now. But since a few recent updates that really change the game it's hard to say for sure if it is truly balanced since everyone is not acclimatised yet.

Never played it. what's it about/like?

Assuming you cant/don't want to watch the videos:

Oh Destroyer, you're missing out! If you can't find the original you should at least check out the free trial for SC2, it's quite a good RTS.

For the Swarm!

I'll have to check out NS2, it looks quite interesting from the video thumbnails (I don't have time to watch them right now) and your description.

Edit: Here's the link to the official Starcraft site:

http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/games/sc/

Keep in mind that it was originally released in 1998, back when "hard" was still hard. I still haven't beaten it! D:

If you ever get the full version of SC2 let me know and I'll play you sometime. :)

Ummmm a problem.

I don't know what Starcraft is, (well kinda, herd of it 1 time) or play it lol.

Ok I'll just explain NS2 best I can, you basically have two teams. Marines and aliens. Both team have a commander that hops in the command chair/hive and plays the game from an RTS perspective that can drop building, research upgrades, and help other players with team res. The marines are more centralized in play style, they use res to purchase items such as shotguns, mines, flamers etc... but more or less it's a marine with more versatility. Aliens have a more tf2 like class system where they can evolve to higher life forms for res. Starts out a as a wall running skulk, next a gorge medic, harassing lerk etc... with a different play style for each.

What are they fighting over? Res nodes and techpoints. Tech points are where CC's and hives go, they are important structures because they open up the tech tree, and you will lose if all are destroyed. Then Res nodes generate income when captured by the appropriate team by building an extractor/harvester on them. They generate 2 incomes for the teams. Team res which the commander uses for mentioned above. And player res that they use to purchase weapons/life forms with. Your goal is to destroy your opponents while protecting yours. No money=No upgrades.
