Jebediah Kerman: *THRILLMASTER*

What do you get when you have ten bored kerbal engineers, one *THRILLMASTER*, a box of spare parts, and the local OSHA rep is locked in the bathroom?

SCIENCE!

Oddly enough, I came upon this rocket powered spring entirely by accident. Was making a set of tiny boosters, and alternated that tiny grey can with the torus tanks. I had too much thrust, the thing coiled up like a spring, and when the engines cut out, the top shredded apart and launched pieces at horrifyingly science-rich speeds.

I bet this would make awesome landing gear...

#EDIT: WARNING! Old man cackling in video. You were post-warned.

Nextime: springs with mainsails.

Maybe I'll try that.

The thing to remember with this specific spring is there's nothing to prevent it from moving laterally. A bigger engine might give it a great push in one direction, but since it can *never* be pointed perfectly vertical (turns out because of Kerbin's rotation) that sucker will buckle and shear. I made one about eight times higher, searching for that sublime sproing. And it snapped on me every time before I could get the spring compressed more than three quarters of the way.
