V-1-alike

The V-1 stands for Vergeltungswaffe (vengeance weapon, Thanks Wikipedia!), and it was used to rain destruction of the "east end of ol' Londahn Tahn."

FYI, I haven't done an actual rail launch system as I don't have the expertise.

The foolish Kerbtownese have betrayed us for the last time! We must rain fire and destruction onto them.

We have scrapped all our weapons since we put down the last time the Race tried to Subjugate us. But we have one last K-1 Boombug flying bomb. It has a range to go to KSC 2. The flight path goes as follows, launch, via the SRB rail system, then the drone flies up to the cruise height of 4 km, then when it reaches the target, the rocket engines activate so that they can ram into it at terminal velocity, then BOOM!

Hi there, first of all fantastic!

I am doing GCSE history at the moment and this is quite a great example of an engineering feat! One question, i have tried making one of these v1's and the problem i found is that it is impossible to balance if you have the engine at the top, how did you solve it?

Cheers,

Sam

I used the power of angling engines downward slightly so as to offset the off-axis thrust, oh and lots of ASAS

I guess you could do that, but to ge from the west coast of France to brick lane is about seventy/80 miles, and this wasn't really designed with that in mind, as one, I am a terrible pilot, 2 my altitude would keep changing, and I don't really go as the crow flies as again, I am an awful pilot.

But I might try that when I have the time.
