Ability to rename vessels from Tracking Station instead of vessel's command core.

Recommended Posts

Right now it's impossible to rename a vessel unless it has a working command core. You have to click the command core and pick "rename vessel". If the command core is disabled for lack of electricity you can't do it. Or if it's a piece of debris without a command core you can't do it. This doesn't make a lot of sense since giving things in orbit handy names to refer to them is useful mostly for the people in the space program on the ground tracking them. Surely they're capable of naming objects themselves for their own purposes.

"Ever since that space station disaster we've had 5 bits of debris in orbit we've been tracking."

"We should take care of that. What have you named them? We'll send a junk detail mission up to get them."

"Oh, I can't name them sir. They don't have control modules. They're called Space Station Debris, Space Station Debris, Space Station Debris, Space Station Debris, and Space Station Debris."

"But those are all the same name! How do you keep track of which is which?"

'I don't, sir. We here at Kerbal Control Center are incapable of using language. We don't know how to name things."

"Can't you number them at least?"

"Nope, we can't count either."

The Tracking Station would be a logical place to do this from to stop this rather absurd scenario.

Hmm, giving debris unique names is a new idea, and it sounds useful.

I agree, but this has been suggested several times before. Has this been added to the Already Suggested list? Chaos_Forge, or a mod, please can you add this? I've seen this multiple times.

This makes link number 4. It's "Renaming flights from the tracking center" under the User Interface category. Also for next time, it's easier for me if you could make a post with a link on the already suggested list thread itself. I don't have enough free time to go through all the threads in the suggestions forum DX

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
