Trying to build Virgin Galactic Spaceship 2 - Need Help (KSP noob)

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I have been trying to build Virgin Galactic's spaceship two as seen in their recent test flight but have had a few issues with KSPs "construction engine" or "snapping tool" (i dont know what else to call it).

When trying to attach the "upper" set of wings to my decoupler, they always want to attach perpendicular as opposed to parallel/flush with the decoupling surface (left image)

My next issue is that once I manage to stick the wing parallel (which took me more than 20min), I am unable to flip the orientation to fit with the exterior flight cabins (right image)

Build Issues ^^

^^ Picture of what im trying to build

----------------------------------------

Basically Im looking for a tool to increase the utility in the construction process.

I dont mind using mods that increase utility, but I would prefer to stay away from mods that "cheat" (ie. physics, fuel, auto-pilot)

Many thanks to anyone taking the time read this and help me out!

Cheers,

FP

Don't have the game in front of me, so I'm not in a position to try and replicate your issues, but parts can be reoriented with the w,a,s,d,q, and e keys (in case you hadn't already figured that out - took me awhile to realize you could do that). Assuming that's not enough, and the game still doesn't like you placing things in certain orientations, you could try playing with some of the strut parts which are small, don't weight much, and good for giving you new orientations to work with. Wouldn't be 100% true to the original design, but for the most part shouldn't be too noticeable if viewed from a distance.

I love this project!

I did one similar not too long ago. It has become my favorite ship so far. It is so much fun to fly. Here's my thread on the subject: HERE.

Tips:

Turn off angle snap (press "C"). Sometimes things line up better when they aren't trying to snap to a location and you can have fine control over placement.

Put a cubic or octaganal strut on the decoupler first. Then attach wings to the strut. It will give you better connection points to have the wings facing the correct direction.
