Relative Velocity is Incorrect!

Recommended Posts

So I usually don't have any problems docking, but recently I've experienced a problem twice that doesn't make any sense to me. I'll get close to the target, then as I approach I line up retrograde (navball is in "Target" mode, confirmed over and over) and burn to decrease relative velocity. Relative velocity drops to zero, and the target flies away at a speed that must be over 100 m/s. I bring the nose around, point directly at the target and burn like crazy to catch up, then again turn to retrograde and burn to slow . . . and the target flies away again. Back and forth, back and forth, I get relative velocity to 0 and the target is definitely not stopped in place relative to my ship.

I've tried "control from here" from various points on the ship and tried unsetting the target and setting it again. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

O-M-G! that happened to me!

I sent my eve lander to orbit after landing and then brought a rescue ship, tried to dock with it but my velocitysuddenly drops to 0 and the target got BLOWN UP!

This is a bug and there is no fix for it, I'm afraid that you have to make a new ship. I personally re-installed the game but kept the saves file, and so far I have no problems.

The OP never mentioned a ship blowing up. Sudden ship disintegration is a clipping issue and you are correct about there currently being no solution but this is something completely different. Why do people ALWAYS bring up totally unrelated things?

You might be actually hitting the target with your exhaust. How close are you for the burn?
are you using a very powerful engine like mainsail?

I think that is not the issue, because else the relative velocity vector would refresh and adapt immediately as the target is pushed by the exhaust. So he would not reach zero at all.
