Kethane Ironman Challenge

Done with moho... Now preparing to head to that hell of a planet eve...

You know, I dont think I am going to even try to mine on eve, since I know I cant haul kethane up off the surface... If I take a fuel load of kethane down, that should be enough to refuel myself from a powered landing... then bleed off the rest though the jets so that I have just enough so that I run out of atmosphere at the same time I run out of kethane, and then stage those suckers out the window.

Good luck Pbhead, Yes it makes sense, mining Kethane is just to help you to travel to the next planet, if you don't have to don't. Just get back to Kerbin!!! :P

I've still had no luck getting a craft off of Eve under the rules provided in the challenge. After seeing some of the things tavert has done, I hold out a slim hope that by using the kethane jets, there could be a way to do this, but I would like to see some exceptions made for Eve. I request that the rules say something to the effect that it's OK to leave parts like drills and converters and jets behind since it's the last stop and they're no longer needed. My idea is to use 4 separate craft, with 2 of the craft being simple kethane jets that can be docked and undocked for use on bodies that have atmospheres, avoiding the need to transport the jets down to Tylo. What do you think, Lions?

Yes you are correct, i have been thinking about this recently, i will change the rules, you can have as many parts as you want, you can leave parts behind too. As long as you make the whole trip in one go :)

Thanks Otis

PS.. I changed the rules completely, i think it should make this challenge easier and more fun.

Cool! This will give me something to work on for the next few days or even weeks. Great idea on this challenge, Lions.

edit : I've got my lander designs done. I can land and take off of Eve and Tylo. Landing on Tylo was even harder than I expected. I took 3 days to finally "find my marks", like they say in Nascar. It's definitely a hairy suicide burn. Now, my last worry before actually embarking on the full mission is the transfer from Eeloo to Moho. I think I'll just go ahead and dive in. If it turns out to be impossible to do in one shot with the current design that I have going for my mother ship, then I'll use Pbhead's idea of stopping for a refuel somewhere in between. This is gonna be close as to whether I get this done before .22 comes out, or then again, considering the scope of the update, maybe not.:)
