I turned some kids loose on KSP where they designed two rockets based upon only the Nova Punch 1.25 by 6 meter tanks and one size engine. This first one, a stack of five tanks, no braces, and no stage, made single stage to Kerban escape. ( reduced the engine size down as it accelerated to the point of frictional overheating. That reduction allowed the SSTE the entire rocket with a one ton capsule.)

This one, a two stage pancake stack of the same tanks and engines, had no braces or SAS other then what the Kersputnik supplied. Not only it stayed together, it hit solar system escape at an incredible speed.

I modified the design by bracing it to stop the roll, dropped the fins, added a single third stage, and sent it heading straight into the sun at even higher speed.

Kerbal engineering. Put more fuel tanks on it and see what happens. This is a perfect example.

Most correct. While the five stack stayed together on the 1.25 by 6 meter, it promptly fell apart for the much bigger diameter ones upon launch. Just like they never were connected at all.
