Thought I would give Eve a shot.

Here's a pic of the 3 man return vessel with the 1 man lander I dubbed the "Phalanx Lander"

Coming down.

Woot! Landed!

Turns out that thing can barely make past 50K, much less orbit. But, Genefred Kerman made a safe landing.

Next up - Phalanx Lander Mark II. This one has actually been tested, and can safely launch from 3K on Eve. Now I just have to get it there.

Apparantly parachutes are pretty important to remember before getting all the way to Eve...

While the crew survived, the lander is in many more pieces (and missing quite a few) from the original design.

I'll have to make some pics later. I tried to re-create and then improve on the "Eve Return" vehicle (from the mission reports, I'm sorry I don't remember who did it ill look up your name soon).

Anyway, that launcher was designed back in the days there was a 4km launch site on eve (since been removed).

So I had the bright idea (not so much) to attempt the design of a launch system capable of returning 1 kerbal from sea level to eve orbit.

Initial testing on Kerbin seemed pretty promising, and the numbers I was getting in Engineer seemed good, so I landed a test launch on eve, much to my chargrin, I landed on the side of a small hill (more like a rise) just enough to not only explode the center Vectoring engine, but put the whole craft on a 15 degree or so tilt. Tried multiple launches anyway, as expected all fails.

So it's back to the drawing board.

Second try.

Now with return spaceplane and rovers.

2.1kt on the pad.

Touchdown imminent.

Two chutes ripped off at full opening and i had to balance the craft by cutting two chutes on the other side.

I landed. Unfortunately, my aim was off, and I crashed into the water, dropping the rover on the way because I hit space too early. Jeb got out, swam to shore, and planted the flag. Bill, being the lazy bugger he is, decided to hover over in the lander.

It got up out the water, started rising, I cut throttle a bit, and it slammed back down into the water, smacked into the debris of the rover, and exploded. RIP Bill.

Jeb is now stranded on the shoreline.

How in the hell do you embed imgur albums?

  • 2 weeks later...

In .18, after getting bored of Kerbin's SoI, I've set a goal to myself: visit Duna. On the injection burn however, I've got an Eve encounter and I was like "Why not?" and just went there because I knew that I would screw up the Duna encounter.

Eve's atmosphere was a lot rougher than I've thought though.

*chute expands* WHOOPS!

The lander got torn into two pieces even though i've had it strutted.

I still had the probe core so I could do some science experiments until juice ran out (My power supply was in the destroyed part)
