upgrading your Tracking station!!

Recommended Posts

I was initially apprehensive of this suggestion, but now that the title has been edited, I'm a bit more interested.

In addition to upgrading the existing tracking station, I'd like to see the ability to specify additional tracking station locations on Kerbin, in order to establish a Deep Space Network-like analogue.

lol,it's my fault i wrote satellite instead of tracking station,i'm totally with you guys about going eve to upgrade satellites, but this topic isn't about that so,it's tracking stations, now i'm going to explain this in a better way or in a simplest way i can find if you didn't get what i'm aiming for,did you ever see these pictures captured by these big tracking stations, same thing ! you begin with black and white, then upgrade it,you will be able to see with colors, and with every upgrade you can zoom more and take pictures so you can get science !,and i want the dev's to remove the flying camera, and make it more realistic by viewing space and zooming from kerbin(tracking station)and like i said not a camera floating in space

Don't want to be rude, BUT.

First, I like your modesty.

Second, it's tracking station, not observatory. Map View is not a "camera floating in space", it's schematic representation of objects and their orbits. You don't need to constantly look at satellite through telescope to know its position. Moreso, removing orbital information and introducing "evolving photography station" instead is a step back, not forward.

Most of things suggested in this topic is implemented in mods. Satellite maintenance? KAS. Building comm network? RemoteTech.

Perhaps it could be changed to more "efficient" forms of transmitting for probes. I, for one, would love a small delay when controlling a far away probe. For all you that want unrealistic instant-control, you could just build a space station nearby or, with upgrades I imagine, get your cheaty FTL/subspace comms.

Maybe not exactly like the original post suggested, but I do like the idea that in career mode the Tracking Center technology starts off pretty crude, and gets improved by missions you perform.

Historically, for the first few Soviet space shots, they had to rely on the brand new tracking station the British built at Jodril Bank, as it was the first of its kind in the world, to prove the shot worked. They didn't "officially" use them, but they "leaked" information about the shots and knew the British would want to track the occasion for their own purposes. Then they watched for their reports in the newspapers as proof.

The space race didn't just mean that the vehicles had to be built from scratch, but also that the complex network of how they're tracked had to be built from scratch too.
