Question about Docking Ports.....

This might be a silly question.. But, do you need a docking port on your target, and the craft you want to dock for it to work? (I've been assuming you have to, but I know I can use only one port in the form of a decoupler....)

You can use one port as a decoupler in teh VAB but to dock in orbit, you will need to make contact docking port to docking port. moreover, they must be the same type. Sr.s will only dock iwth Sr.s (make sure the flatter side is NOT out or else it is backwards) and Jr.s will only dock with Jr.s. Shielded and inline are both in the standard size and will dock with standard ports.

I recommend SR docking ports whenever you can, so much more sturdy, it keeps your docked ships from wobbling as much as they do with the smaller ports.
