Relax 1m to origin limit for airlock functionality

Recommended Posts

Please consider relaxing (or removing) the 1m maximum limit from origin for the airlock functionality

Currently you can find yourself needing to kludge the origin to near the skin of any 2m+ diameter, or 2m+ long object so an airlock will function correctly, then adjust the CoM offset in the part.cfg back to where the origin should be so that the part isn't imbalanced

I've filed a bug report, but to clarify for those who aren't familiar with the issue:

- Kerbals can technically EVA out of airlocks, regardless of how far the collider mesh is from the part origin.

- However, if the airlock collider is >1m from the origin, the collider fails to check for obstruction, leading to rapid unplanned disassembly as the Kerbals intersect with the part placed over the hatch.

My understanding is that the forum staff (and possibly the devs) are already aware of the issue, but probably hadn't fixed it yet because the stock pods were small enough to have their airlocks very close to the part origins.

I suppose this bug fix would permit much large crew containers, like my 3 meter long FusTek station modules - I'm currently using the workaround you described.
