[STOCKALIKE] Horizon Station: Module Submissions

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, Sierra here!

As some of you may or may not know, I have been building the Horizon Station on my weekend livestream (Saturdays at 12 noon EST, GMT-5).

I hit a snag on building the fuel depot module so I announced yesterday that it would be left up to you, the viewers, to come up with the best tanker module you can.

Here is a picture of Horizon:

The tanker will be placed between the solar arrays and the docks.

Below are the specifications.

  • 2 standardClamp-0-Tron docking ports (one top, one bottom)
  • 4 standard Clamp-0-Tron docking ports for a utility craft docking bay (be careful of civilian docks and solar panels)
  • lights on said docking bay
  • 1 Jumbo-64 fuel tank(or equivalent)
  • 1 FL-R1 RCS tank (or equivalent)
  • 2 Mk 1 Jet fuel fuselage tanks (or equivalent)
  • at least 20 units of torque
  • at least 4000 units of electricity

These are the basic necessities the station will need. And official submission must contain the following:

  • A module name (if you want one)
  • The name you would like to be called on stream
  • A brief description about it
  • A picture of the module
  • The .craft file with a launcher capable of docking the payload to the station in a 1.609km orbit
  • Instructions on how to use your provided launch vehicle

Thanks! And I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.

I'll be giving everyone three weeks to submit. During that time, I'll be taking a break from streaming KSP and playing some War Thunder next saturday and Hawken the week after that. Then we can return to building the Horizon and one lucky winner chosen by me will have their module placed on Horizon Station. Tune in to watch all the action at http://www.twitch.tv/captsierra/

I present you the Hydra Modular Station Hub (The name should be used in the stream if the model is selected). This docking hub features several docking ports of varying size, plenty of fuel and RCS reserves, and controllable modular adapters designed for convenience and flexibility.

Features 4 Standard size docking ports, 2 Sr. Docking port, 2 Standard to Jr. sized adapters and a minitug that can dub as a regular/ Sr Adapter.

- Can reach a 1600Km+ orbit with ease.

- Has emergency nuclear engines for orbital corrections after an error (can be jettisoned).

- Holds 1 orange tank of fuel.

- Has 1 large tank of RCS fuel (can dub as a mini tug AND a standard to senior adapter).

- Has 2 medium RCS fuel tanks whose main purpose is to serve as standard to Jr. docking port adapters.

- Out of the way solar panels to reduce the probability of breakage.

- As well as 6 Tanks of jet fuel.

- Has 60 torque and over 8000 battery power.

- The Launch vehicle is simple to use, just stage whenever a section runs out and aim for a standard orbit of desired altitude, I do recommend not exceeding terminal velocity (120ish m/s) in the thickest part of the atmosphere (the first light blue part) that's entirely optional, but it increases the range even more. The emergency nukes are designed to draw from the main tank (Should the user desire to go MUCH further, don't forget to empty their tanks into the main reserves before jettisoning them, assuming there is room for the fuel.

Action Groups:

1: Solar Panels.

2/3/4/5: Docking Ports shields.

0: RCS tank/Minitug Lights.

Here we see the Hydra deployed at night. It can be made ready to be docked to any size of docking ports. Smoother lighting was opted for to prevent color bleaching, also the spotlights on the RCS tank can be independently turned off.

Here we see the Hydra going into orbit, it has a base range to reach an orbit of about 1700 KM, and if an error is made, or a higher orbit is desired, 2 LV-N nuclear engines provide an extra push. Once at the desired orbit, you can opt to jettison or keep the engines.

Here we see the Hydra's multiple head adapters in action, enabling the user to reconfigure the docking hub as desired. By looking at the bottom right image, you can see that jet fuel tanks were used in line with then structural supports of the main docking ring.
