Kerbal loadouts

Recommended Posts

Sometimes, you don't need a low-gravity rocket-pack.

Sometimes, you need a less efficient, high-acceleration pack.

Sometimes, you need a literal jet-pack.

Maybe you need a grapple for easy navigation of Gilly or asteroids, snatching onto things, grabbing your ship, etc?

Maybe you need rock-climbing gear?

Maybe you need a demolition pack, for some reason 0_0?

Maybe an emergency airbag?

Maybe a parachute backpack?

Or even a hang-glider or a wing-suit?

Oh, you might even want a robotic limb assistance suit for power or speed.

Or maybe you want the freedom of you, a quarter-million-dollar pressurized suit, and the open air (or space, as the case may be).

For that matter, one could implement temperature and air effects on kerbals, making a distinction between Space-suits, Landing suits, and pilot-suits.

Every extra piece of gear would add weight and cost, some things would simply be impossible to combine, due to similar function or position on the body.

Above a certain weight, Kerbals would have trouble standing (obviously this would be more true on Eve than Kerbin, or, say, Gilly).

Extra weight makes Kerbals slower to move or accelerate. This is also important when it comes to jet/rocket/compressed gas packs. (IRL, people use compressed gas packs, which are some of the least impressive devices ever invented, they get a full 24.4 m/s of Delta-V and weigh more than an entire astronaut)
