A Whackjovian treatise on the 0.22 update.

Ok, I tend to be somewhat unclear when I explain things, and I tend to have thoughts I have a rather severe difficulty into putting into writing. Especially so in a coherent format that doesn't make an average readers' eyes bleed. But I'll give it a whirl here.

The new patch? Yeah, I'm a fan. In the old sandbox game, I'd build giant monstrosities to accomplish the smallest of tasks. I took great delight in this. But now? Now I have to plan. Now, I have to make decisions. I feel like a brand new player again. I'm making a Munar run right now, even as we speak. I have very little unlocked. I do not have fuel lines. I do not have big tanks or engines. I'm almost at demo level. Yet here I am, bolting Jeb into a machine that may very well wind up being lethal.

I will be hauling two materials bays and four goo tanks. For science. You monster!

The new parts? Love them. The new mechanics? Love them. I've spent a solid twenty minutes trying to think of anything I could gripe about. And the only thing I can come up with is the lack of pintles and gudgeons! But there's still time for that.

I am a cat. A cat playing with a new ball. A ball that makes noises when you hit it! A ball that makes noises when you hit it and smells tantalizingly of catnip.

I couldn't be more pleased. Thank you Squad. I feel like I'm playing the game for the first time again! Now go away so I can bat around this noisy ball some more.

#EDIT: Munar run was a failure. Got to orbit, probably would have made munarfall, but wasn't comfortable enough to go. I want more delta-v as a buffer. Did some cheap science and landing for a second try.

amen to this. I couldn't have put it better (particularly the feeling like a cat bit). I was really quite worried about how career mode was going to change things, now I'm really quite happy, although I don't see myself getting much any sleep tonight!

Just managed docking ports myself. I can probably manage a non-lunar-rendezvous landing but I'm too giddy with excitement...I haven't done a landing that didn't involve rocko-64s, atomic engines, and massively over-engineered craft in forever.

0.22 is a game changer the likes of which we haven't seen since 0.18 brought docking into the fold. I just got to sit down and play with it and was so inspired by the new possibilities that for the first time since 0.18 I am truly starting from scratch. All my saves, ships, mods, and even screenshots have gone away into the backup folder and I am playing completely stock to build myself back up to the interplanetary empire I have always wanted!

I feel your pain... My career attempts just to get a landing on Mun still resulted in using 76,000 fuel on the 3rd stage alone!!

I really need to learn about downsizing too.......

I'm tempted to start using large diameter tanks but...I just can't bring myself to. I'm not going for some massive lander, but at least a little crew capacity would be nice. I started from scratch on my munar launch platform but I'm thinking perhaps I'll be reusing my probe configuration (above). Also been thinking of Kerbin-Orbit rendevous and a dual lift/fueling setup
