EVA Kerbal Grab \ Part recoloring

Recommended Posts

I have 2 suggestions to propose, I'm not quite sure how hard they would be to implement but I don't think it would be all that difficult.

1- Grabbing another EVA Kerbal

Slightly inspired by Gravity, let's say you over-extend your stay in EVA while in space and run out of propellant on your pack, you have no way of getting your poor Kerbal back. WHAT IF, another crew member went EVA and rescued the poor Kerbal by grabbing and dragging it back to the ship.

It's a small thing but I don't see a reason of why this shouldn't be allowed.

2- Recoloring Parts

Pretty self explanatory, let's say you want to make a consistent ship design but can't because the part colors differ from one another, you might end up with an orange tank and white ones on your space station, then yellow fuel lines and such. Or let's say you are just tired of white wings on your planes. Why can't we just recolor ship parts to whatever color we want? Kerbal can be creative too!

I for one would very much like to repaint my dull white spaceplanes to black or gunmetal-ish.

Both are excellent ideas.

1 - I'm surprised I haven't thought of this or seen it suggested yet. Interactions between kerbals and more things to do on EVA are the kinds of polish many of us are hoping to see at some point. Not to mention the utility of being able to nab a stranded kerbal without needing to maneuver a ladder over to him.

2 - This has probably been suggested plenty of times, but it is still a very good suggestion. Recently, the kerbpaint mod came out and shows that the stock parts can be dynamically repainted with some clever coding and some preparation on the developers' part. Hopefully we will see this in stock KSP at some point.

In my short career I've now managed to strand two Kerbals in terminal orbits with no EVA propellant left, both times just a couple of meters away from grabbing the spare rescue capsule. The Kerbals should be able to grab their fellow kerbonaut's.

Why limit it to kerbals? Maybe you can grab onto the side of a ship and (very slowly) move it around? Would be awesome to see EVA station construction as multiple Kerbals grabbed a part an then you selected the part and used docking to move it about.

Even a Kerbal with no jetpack fuel floating in space can be saved if you navigate the pod ladder to within his hands' reach. Or any ladder. You can make a whole flytrap from ladders for your Kerbal if you're not skilled enough to match him with just pod ladder.
