needs help on basic modding not modeling

Recommended Posts

ok i may sound either extremely thick or extremely stupid when i say this but how the heck do i actually mod?

well to be more specific i think i have the config editing and modeling part down but i have no idea how to UV map and to actually export the models to be used by the game(which i assume from looking at other parts is made up as either a .MU or .MBM file but i am not sure as to which or how to actually do this) and this has been extremely frustrating as the tutorials make no sense for me and is really annoying

i just need guidance especially since i am using sketch up for modeling and blender for UV mapping

UV mapping is a beast all its own...best I can tell ya about that is there are good tutorial at CGCookie and good luck...

For the rest however you should get Unity and KSP PartTools. Use that to set colliders, make transforms for engines, rcs and such, and then export it all into .mu and whatever image format ya choose (you dont have to use .mbm btw).

May seems hassle to have to learn another bit a software...but for 90% of KSP parts its actually the easy step out of the lot.

On a side note...not sure if the current build of PartTools works with the new Unity (4.2.+)...I have still be using the latest build of Unity 4.1...cant find info to confirm it works...and Id rather not jackup all my saved projects lol
