Cannot recover any vessels even after landing them.

Hello, I have just gotten into KSP as of 0.21.1 and I just made my first mission to the moon in career mode, while landing I ran out of fuel (and my engine blew up) so I was stranded on the mun. I put down my flag and took samples etc, then I got back into my ship and went to the tracking station to recover the ship (because obviously after my engine blew up and i ran out of fuel I cant fly back to kerbin) and no matter what I did the recover button for the ship remained grayed out. I haven't found any other threads with this issue, so am I just missing something or is this a bug?

You can only recover ships on Kerbin. You can abort the mission in the tracking station but that will just blow up everything.

Yeah, "recovery" here refers to collecting a ship that has returned to Kerbin (like with aircraft carriers 'n stuff), not to recover a stranded ship.
