SC-9001 Science Module Part Size Standard

Recommended Posts

I found a possible oversight in the design of the Science Jr. science can part.

Here we can see the length standardization of several parts. 1 Length of the FL-T200 is equal to 2 FL-R25 RCS tanks, or 5 Z1K battery banks. However, the Science Jr. is only a few in-game inches short of fitting the same size.

As you can see, the connection nodes in these Quad-Adapters tells the story that the Science Jr. is a wink shy of being the same size.

It obviously isn't a game-changing difference but unfortunately munks my design.

This is a suggestion and/or hope that, unless changing the size of the Science Jr. would be a save-breaking alteration, it would be nice...

If you look at the end of the Science bay which is snapped-to-node, you can see it's clipping on the quad-adapter, it seems like one could adjust the node_stack_top [nst] and node_stack_bottom [nsb] attachment points to correct this without actually having them look floaty?

[Edit] Open FL-T200 part.cfg and work out the difference/distance between nst and nsb, check that it's the same for 2x FL-R25 RCS tanks and 5 Z1K, then copy the nst/nsb values from the FL-200 to the science bay (comment out or delete the included nst/nsb) then check the part in game

Caution: Existing ships including the science bay may not react well to changing its nst/nsb values.

only one of those 4 nodes will actually be connected anyway.. the rest just look like it. gotta strut it up or use weld mod or something. or 4 pairs of dock ports.

I was under the impression that if all four of the child parts of the adapter were of the same length, a second adapter would 'connect' to all four of the nodes of those other parts. For example, if one used quad-symmetry on a fuel tank attached to the top adapter, the bottom adapter would connect to all four of the fuel tanks as well.

Therefore it would stand to reason that if one had four parts of any sort attached to the top adapter, the bottom adapter would then therefore attach to all four nodes at the bottom.

No it wont because a part cannot have more than one parent.

Also the bottom node (the 4 ones) does not allow fuel cross feed.

Good catch
