Oh my kod. I've been to focused on KSP to be even thinking about space engineers. Oh well, back to space engineers. At least I don't play fallout.

It says that my system does not support directx 11. I have an NVIDIA GeForce 9600 gso 512 graphics card, it is impossible for me run planets? Thanks!

You should. It's great.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll take a look at it.

Yup. Planets are only supported on DX11 and above.

Guhhh. Wait, it didn't say that I needed DX11 when I bought it: https://web.archive.org/web/20151111093513/http://www.spaceengineersgame.com/system-requirements.html

Correct. This is the first update that requires DX11. DX9 is still supported but you won't have planets. The system requirements were updated on the day the update was released (this is from the steam store page - for some reason the official website doesn't mention the DX11 requirement):

"NOTE: The minimum requirements are sufficient to run the game but without planetary features, which require DirectX 11."
Not for me they don't. There are some very, very small stutters that are barely noticeable but the game still runs at 60fps even if I'm on a planet. I suspect it's mostly a compatibility problem, not lack of optimization.
What are your machine specs, and what OS?

I have similar specs, i7-3770, GTX 970, 16gb ram, on windows 7, and I can attest to the game running nicely with that, though the initial load is a bit janky. once its loaded it runs just fine.

"To support Planets as you know them now, we had to optimize many parts of our game engine. This includes physics (collision detection between ships and planets), rendering large scale planetary environments with various materials, flora zones that support fast and seamless movement without any preloading, atmosphere and gravity, etc... We will keep optimizing and supporting the game and planetary features with future updates and additional content to make the experience better and better."

same as raptor, first launch took time, after nice for me too and that's kinda a big step keen just made.

You know this game is good when KSH has to bump up the minimum specs to get a new feature in.

But that means that now you must have a gaming rig (or dish out $200+ for a card) to play with planets at a decent framerate, which I don't. ;.;
