Stress Simulation In Design Mode

Recommended Posts

Hi, as everybody knows, it's frustrating and facepalming to watch, when you make a big craft and it unfolds itself in front of your very eyes... so, could a stress simulator be designed so we can see points of structural stress per component, that way we can more precisely point out the areas of the design that indeed require struts so it doesn't self-destruct in the launchpad, it could be done by simulating the physics engine for a minute(without rendering, so it's faster)and then elaborate a report where it says the amount of stress such undergone when subject to Kerbin gravity, all in a friendly % where 100% means the part broke.

Of course, deadly wobbling would still be a problem, but such simulation pre-launch could prevent that awkward moment where you build an epic rocket in front of your friends to show how cool KSP is, and it self-destructs on the launchpad, such simulator will greatly ease our ship design needs, so we know where exactly to put struts and where exactly NEED struts.

It would be even cooler if such stress map had a an option to display hull stress in a color coded map around the vessel, so you know which areas indeed need a strut.

Thanks, filippe999.
