How should I build my "observatory"?

So I've decided I want to build something to put in the mountains near the kerbal space center. I just can't decide what. My first thought was an observatory, but I can't think of any way to build a giant telescope that would look good. Another idea is a giant lookout tower, but I've tried that before on minmus (http://i.imgur.com/YYQexIJ.jpg) and found out that you can't go first person view from command seats. Maybe just a giant tower you could run up and look from the top.

Any suggestions?

If you're going to make a lookout tower, definitely use the cupola module or even the mk1 cockpit. Both have a lot of window space, especially if you double click on the windows.

You could use a cupola and call it your observatory; wouldn't have a telescope per se, but that thing gives you a a lot of window and the view looking at Kerbin's sky from it would be gorgeous!

It's also what I'd use for a lookout tower.

Here's some of my attempts at buildings. You could try something similar. I rolled them into place then decoupled the wheels and removed the resulting debris.

You'd have to fly yours up there...
