Semi-deployed parachute size

Recommended Posts

Does anybody what does the size of semi-deployed parachute depend on? Whatever I do, I\'m getting these stick-like figures:

While the standard parachute looks much wider when semi-deployed:

Fully deployed canopy looks just fine:

What I\'ve already tried:

- searched the forum,

- decreased the size of the canopy in Blender, canopy\'s diameter and height one at a time,

- decreased number of polygons in the canopy,

- changed parachute proportions, i.e. portion taken by wires as compared by canopy itself,

- modified scale and semiDeployedDrag parameters in .CFG,

- applied \'empty parent\' approach proposed by Technical Ben in http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=4538.msg52205#msg52205,

- hit my head against the table and said \'screw this game!\' 3 times,

still no use.

Moreover, after I\'ve imported standard Mk16 Parachute into Blender and re-exported it again, it has began showin\' \'stick figures\' in semi-deployed state, exactly as my own \'chute.

What\'s the fu catch?

Any help would be highly appreciated :)

Phew! Finally here\'s the solution:

The size of semi-deployed parachute is calculated in assumption that scene\'s scale is 0.1. The game does not check that scale though! So the canopy must have the \'scale\' attribute equal to 0.1.

What\'s to do? Increase canopy\'s size 10 times (along X, Y and Z), then in Blender choose Object->Apply->Scale to make Blender recalculate all the coordinates. Then set all the 3 scales to 0.1 (without applying).

Let the topic stay here for those who might face the same problem.

Screw that. I\'ve lost 4 freakin\' hours to get the solution. 4 freakin\' hours. Just to get around a [censored] bug in a [censored] game. >:(

AWESOME! IT WORKS! TESTED!

YOU SIR SOLVED AN ANCIENT PROBLEM!

for people using MAX this is the deal!:

1) scale the canopy model down to 10% (10x, 10y, 10z)

2) go to tools> reset xform> reset xform (when reset. the scale of the model should be 100 again, but now the model is smaller)

3) scale the model back up this time to 1000% (1000x, 1000y, 1000z) to its original size (DONT RESETXFORM AGAIN)

4) export.

EDIT:

semi deployed size can be tweaked to be more or less wide like this:

1) scale the canopy model down to 30% (30x, 30y, 30z) (to preview the semideployed look just scale down x and y)

2) go to tools> reset xform> reset xform (when reset. the scale of the model should be 100 again, but now the model is smaller)

3) scale the model back up this time to 330% (330x, 300y, 300z) to its original size (DONT RESETXFORM AGAIN)

4) export.

this worked for me, but if someone has diferent system scale config, may not work, i suggest to use it backwards like.

1) scale the canopy model up to 1000% (1000x, 1000y, 1000z)

2) go to tools> reset xform> reset xform (when reset. the scale of the model should be 100 again, but now the model is huge)

3) scale the model back down this time to 10% (10x, 10y, 10z) to its original size (DONT RESETXFORM AGAIN)

4) export.

THANKS SO MUCH TOSH!

Maybe not in a thread specifically mentioning the issue in an OP post (If memory serves right), but Deus has brought it up within other forums involving his RocktCo packs.

I\'ve searched the word \'parachute\'... aww, snap. I didn\'t search \'Releases\' section :)

exactly, thats why people avoided to mod chutes; only do retexts. i posted once about this issue and nobody knew. until now =)

this thread shoud be made sticky; to get rid of this problem once and for all, for everybody.

cheers!

It\'s strange, but Hidra, Safer and Triple chute worked pretty well with original models. Their creators somehow managed to get rid of this problem...

well, i can assure you, mine (hidra), goes to fully deployed right away without doing semideployement cause of this problem, its a bug i released it with, but now its fixed. thanks to you and spoot who pointed me this thread =)
