Courage and Stupidity

Recommended Posts

haven't seen it have any effect on Kerbals. been trying every combination of them, fresh from the Astronaut complex, like 93% courage and 3% stupidity and any other combination on the 10% 20% 30% etc. going up or down on tens. but, no, it doesn't really, when its you who controls them. it'd be nice if it affected the way they are controlled in IVA.. maybe. i just don't want a high courage or high stupidity level dampening or delaying my signals to the kerbal to slow down or activate his "UP" thrust too late. but, you know, they do say that Stupidity and Courage are the sides of the same coin. ;)

I just read that Kerbals with higher courage will tend to scream less, while kerbals with higher stupidity will tend to smile and laugh while in life threatening conditions. In the Kerbal files, if BadS (Badass) is set to True, like Jeb, they will always be calm. I believe this is true. But don't trust everything on the internet.

Nope, mainly because there is no G-loading machine (at least that I know of).

Also, kerbals don't pass out.

There is one in the selection process video.

I'm guessing the courage and stupidity will come into play later as career gets developed, I guessing that for dangerous missions, only stupid or courageous Kerbals will go, or maybe if your space program is too dangerous you can only recruit kerbals with high courage or stupidity, thus limiting your potential recruits. also, maybe science will depend on kerbal intelligence, so if you kill your smart kerbals then your progress will be slowed down. Also if kerbals contrlling their own ship becomes a feature then it could also affect that.

I always try and recruit the smartest and bravest kerbals available even tho it doesn't matter.

Pretty certain that Courage and Stupidity only effects facial expressions.

There is also a "BadS" switch. Which my understanding is that if it is set to True, the Kerbal with grin/laugh when his co-pilots are scared.

That's probably offtopic but I landed a couple rovers on Duna the other day. And to honour the great Spirit, Opportunity and Curiosity rovers, I named mine after the two greatest Kerbal virtues - Courage and Stupidity.

That is a very good call sir. I spend hours trying to figure out names for my crafts but those are a winner. Very kerbalistic!
