So close!! (Docking)

Recommended Posts

I'd definitely also recommend the RCS Build Aid plugin. Use it in the VAB to show if your RCS thrusters are properly balanced to avoid unwanted torque.

Thanks! I'll give that mod a go :)

I've just managed to get my 3rd section up and docked but now I am going to wait until i unlocked the multi-attach point thingy because my station is becoming a bit long.. lol

I just get close, point the ports at each other, and before they turn away from each other, move forward.

I can't be the ONLY person to think of this method

That works for smaller space stations. But once a station becomes big or is unbalanced, it starts to spin out of control when you try to rotate it.

1. Set docking port as your target. 2.Click on your ship docking port and select "control from here".

3.Switch to docking controls (left-bottom thingy). 4. Line up prograde and target markers. 5.Don't exceed 5/ms when you're close to docking.

I will make a video about this sometime...

Protip: If you activate fine controls (capslock by default, the actuation sliders in the bottom left will change from orange to blue), your craft will balance RCS power across different ports when translating to avoid rotation. Put differently, pressing HNIJKL will not rotate your craft (much), as long as you have RCS on both sides of your CoM (even if not balanced). Though this works best with small bursts, holding the keys down makes it less effective.
