Part swapping.

I would like the ability to select a part and remove/alter/replace it, without altering the other parts attached to it regardless of the parent part and whatnot (maybe with [inset whatever key] + left clicking) or maybe with a "swap part button option" maybe, or whatever..

I apologize if this has already been suggested.

Drag away the parts under it, remove part, put a new part in its place, and put the stack you moved out of the way back.

But if the new part has a different mesh, where would things be attached?

If the new part has a different mesh how would having a button that replaces radially placed parts work? You would still have to detach them and reattach them.

My point was; I don't like having to rebuild everything/reattach everything just right, just because I needed to (for example) replace one type of fuel tank for another, and things happened to be attached to it. That's all really...

EDIT: This mostly applies to the space plane hanger.
