Riddles

There are no rules governing how you write a riddle, save that it must be at least a common enough thing for just about everyone to have a good chance of guessing. (So, for example, a Kugelblitz is probably a poor choice of subject matter, just because it's not commonly known and thus the riddle is a bit pointless.)

OK, here's a riddle

I cannot be seen

Nor lost

And yet I can be found.

I am not large

Or small

And yet I can be measured.

I do not give life

Nor take it away

And yet should I cease existence

Life would end.

One of my neighbors is stronger, larger than I.

The other weaker, smaller.

And yet we all can form bonds for lifetimes.

What am I?

EDIT: I needed to make something clear about the neighbors. Sorry.

No.

Btw, I'll be dispensing hints on a 5-guess wrong basis. So if y'all get five guesses wrong I'll give you a hi *NINJA EDIT* hint

I cannot be seen

Nor lost

And yet I can be found.

I am not large

Wait, it goes; Strong Force, Electromagnetic Force, Gravity, though, right?

Electromagnetism?

Nope.

Your avatar...

Nope.

I kind of think it's an element. Maybe nitrogen?

Closer than the last two...EDIT: Actually, you're very close.

Carbon? Or maybe oxygen or phosphorous?

DING DING DING DING DING!

I cannot be seen You can't see oxygen

Nor lost I don't really think you can lose it either

And yet I can be found. You can find it in different (unexpected) places though.

I am not large No, oxygen isn't large.

Or small Oxygen atoms are small, but not oxygen itself

And yet I can be measured. You can measure the amount of oxygen (ppm, number of atoms in a compound)

I do not give life Having oxygen doesn't make something alive

Nor take it away Having no oxygen doesn't make something dead (plants)

And yet should I cease existence

Life would end. This refers to if oxygen didn't exist cellular respiration would stop and then (due to a lack of CO2) plants would start dying)

One of my neighbors is stronger, larger than I. Fluorine has more protons than oxygen and usually forms ionic bonds which are stronger than covalent bonds

The other weaker, smaller. Nitrogen has less protons and has less electron-attraction ability then O

And yet we all can form bonds for lifetimes. There are molecules of CO2, F2, and N2 that have existed for generations in the atmosphere.

What am I? Filler.
