Following the instructions on her navigation system to use a creek ford' date=' [b']the driver failed to notice it was swelled by torrential rain. The car was swept away and she had to be rescued. The car was a total loss.

Oh come on, how do you fail to notice something like that? That\'s not the GPS\' fault, that\'s just the driver being a bloody idiot.

I say both. If the person had a map, he would know the road. But yes, he was an idiot. There is another one where he is directed across europe.

He programmed his destination of the Rock of Gibraltar as he left Antakya, Turkey. But because Gibraltar is technically part of the UK, the device routed him to another Gibraltar – a shore town in England. He was 1,600 miles off course. Read more & more

She was fooled by an online hoax that demanded a ban of 'dihidrogen monoxide'. (This is another name for water). She sent a letter to the Health Ministry asking for an opinion on banning the substance.

People can be that stupid sometimes...

That was a new zealander. What about people not eating because something on the internet says that you don\'t?

What\'s about an old pair drivin\' rainy November night a road they were unfamiliar with? They headed to a river crossing which (contrary to their GPS told them) appeared to be a ferry rather than a bridge. A ferry not workin\' at night. In those low visibility conditions results were quite predictable. Both were rescued, car was lost.

And what\'s about my former boss testing a newly released GPS map for his city and found himself about to enter a one-way road... in the opposite direction? Cop didn\'t want to hear anything about \'Teleatlas\' and \'the bug in the map\'. Now the guy\'s pedestrian... and no longer a boss))

You don\'t need to be an idiot (at least, a bloody one) to get a bunch of problems with GPS))

No. Just no. GPS merely tells you where to go, but you still do the driving yourself. If you\'re paying attention as you should, there\'s no way you can fail to notice that the road ends or that there\'s a 'no entry' sign.

Seriously, I get the feeling some people would head full speed into a brick wall if the GPS said they could go straight. It reminds me of Bugs Bunny painting a tunnel on a rock and Daffy Duck running into the rock full speed.

Arrr!

It just goes to show blind faith is a case of the blind leading the blind. Faith in something should never replace your own sense of reason. The two can work side by side to keep you out of harm\'s way. Remove one and the other will fail you.

I have Mapquest for that. Though I always get a chuckle out of this:

http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Las+Vegas,+NV&daddr=Canberra,+Australian+Capital+Territory,+Australia&hl=en&ll=6.664608,-173.144531&spn=115.14171,158.027344&sll=42.811522,-40.605469&sspn=98.546555,158.027344&geocode=FdYQJwIdMJoi-SnRffWkgre-gDGjebPV5tXMOg%3BFbCj5f0d7IXjCCkhkFywaU0WazFgVmmnbuoABQ&oq=canbe&vpsrc=0&mra=ls&t=h&z=3

Observe step 27. Good advice.

Yes, you\'re absolutely right (as well as those ones sayin\' \'don\'t drink\', \'work hard\' and \'be a good boy\' :) ). But consider that a) GPS constantly distracts driver\'s attention with these \'turn left NOW!\', and B) it gives a driver some sense that he knows where he\'s going... a false sense in some cases.

So the situations when a driver (even a smart and accurate one!) finds himself standin\' before \'road closed\' sign, or in a clear filed with no signs of a road (with GPS still saying \'follow this interstate for next 200 km!\') are quite common. Especially in Russia where the maps lie most of the time :)

Observe step 27. Good advice.
