Lets start the primary votes! This time I chose another voting system - basically each one of you has 8 votes. You can either pile all of them on a single entry or spread them out if you can't decide for whom to vote. I hope this will help you guys - I personally though it would be ridiculous to choose a single craft from over thirty entires as THE BEST. Be so kind and do not vote for yourself - it's undignified and not objective.

I also encourage you to tell us for whom you've voted and why. These post are basically the best part of the challenge ;) Also, you can tell me if you think the new voting system is an improvement.

The vote will close in two days.

Do not forget to read the Challenge Guidelines Mk.II - this is not about the most beautifull craft.

You can download all .craft files >>here<< in a single zip.

>>VOTE HERE<<

Results can be view here.

(hope a little late is not too late =< )

Skram presents the Ezh Mk01a

screenshot1.jpg

Flight instructions

Turn on ASA and throttle up to 100, Launch at a HDG/Pitch of 90/90 for the first stage, the ship will tilt over slight.

At the end of the first stage, start the 2nd stage and tilt your Pitch to match your Prograde and keep a 90 HDG, and keep it there until you reach a high of 20KMs.

At 20KMs Pitch over to 20, keeping your HDG 90, you will need to fight the shil a little to keep it at 20 until your prograde reaches it, at which point reset your ASA to hold this course. Keep burning until your stage runs out, start your next stage and keep burning until you raise your AP to 72KM then MECO.

With out changing your Pitch, wait until you reach your AP of 72, and begin to circularise your orbit. If your AP is running away from you, lower your Pitch, if its falling behind raise your pitch, keep doing this until you reach a nice orbit of about 72x72.

Target the Mun for interception and Burn North/South at your DN/AN which ever you reach first to bring it to a 0.0.

You can now do a nice Prograde burn from when the Mun next rises over the Horizon, this will get you out to the Mun with enough fuel to go into an Orbit, and if you are trained land and return!

As I've finally found my first Anomaly, I'm off to investigate <G>

Sorry, zekes - now you should have the right picture.

@Spartwo Nope, didn't know that - I don't see where you clarify that in you post. This whole stuff is quite time consuming and I didn't have to time to look into any .craft file yet. I just take the pictures you guys provide me with and in the second picture you provided me with is mostly black ^^

and kzauner picked KerbalEX ...

Uuhhm sorry; I just did a quick glance over the submissions on the first Post. Sorry, if i missed your entry and took the name. Next time, I use someting like 'openssl rand 6 -base64' for choosing a unique name. Hmmm. Just tried. 'R16AIzac' isnt completely uncool. Expecially if I image other folks trying to make sense about this naming.

Lol thats a lot of craft to test fly.

The worst thing is that i just cant stop building.

I finally managed to get my fuel load down to 6120 from the Kerbal X's 8286 but i dont think its a very good training craft (Very unforgiving) and its very definitely to late to change my entry.

It has six asparagus boosters + six asparagus droptanks and only uses LV 30's in the main drive section

I think the main thing about the Kerbal X is the payload was intended to be a joke and should be replaced easily by a new player and so im struggling to decide how to judge all the craft.

The launcher though is still outstanding and beats most of the entry's iv seen on both style and performance.

Thanks very much Xeldrak you have done a great job and kept my very entertained.

I just wanted to post something and explain why I voted for the people I voted for.

My idea of the Kerbal X was that it should be a direct-ascent Munar lander. Now, of course, other people have different ideas for what it should be, so they will vote differently. Anyway, these are the people I voted for (as far as I can remember, since I can't review my votes).

  • Antin, two votes. I really liked the super-low part count and the simplicity of his design. It didn't leave a lot of error margins for a newbie, but the extendability and simplicity of the design made up for that.
  • Breakthrough, one vote. Breakthrough was the only person to create a rocket that didn't use radial 2.5 meter parts and yet could still land a 3-man capsule on the Mun. That stood out to me. I also liked the wide landing base he had.
  • I_Killed_Jeb, two votes. When I looked at the stock Kerbal X, my first thought was that the 3-man capsule seemed a bit advanced for a beginner craft. The Meercurio Alpha looks almost identical to the stock Kerbal X, but yet has enough fuel to land on the Mun due to the trade of a 3-man capsule for a 1-man capsule. I liked the wide error margins, too.
  • Sploden, three votes. Sploden's craft was my favorite one. It was simple, had very wide error margins, low part count, and looked great. The secret? The use of those tiny rockomax engines. I'm totally going to be using a lot more of them in my designs in the future. EDIT: I just found out that it uses part clipping. However, it still looks very realistic and I think it's not a big deal. I use part clipping all the time, usually! Must be something that makes me believe that it shouldn't be used on stock crafts....

Other crafts I really liked:

There were some other crafts that I would have liked to have voted for, but I didn't have enough votes for everybody. I liked Xeldrak's craft, but it really appeared to me like it used some part clipping (EDIT: Just checked. It doesn't. :)). It doesn't look quite natural to have two fuel tanks/engines half inside each other. But it is a very versatile craft! It even has RCS and a docking node. Sadly, that resulted in a higher part count.

I also liked Blaster's craft. Again, it included RCS and a docking node. But it seemed to me like it would have quite a lot of parts. But it had nice error margins, and just seemed like a nice craft.

Good job everybody!

I'm confused why everyone tells me I missied the point of this challenge, when you said that the Saturn V was one of the ships to take inspiration from? :P

It's mainly the excessive part clipping as well as the orbital rendezvous. Haven't tested yet but these are the a priori strikes in my mind

It's not too clipped, just one or two parts int the command pods (to get two into one)

as for rendesouves, it's really easy, the lander has good TWR so you just wait for the CM to be almost overhead and burn to it. The lander has ridiculous amounts of fuel. it's litterally point and burn at the CM.

I disagree, if two command pods are stuck together into a single pod, it's excessive - you can't do it without turning on part clipping can you?

Blaze Fallow's craft is not Stock

Gosh darn it... One of the mods I have installed has a large SAS module which looks almost EXACTLY like the stock one. Pretty lame when you don't realize it in the build. @Xeldrak If it isn't too far outside the bounds of the competition I can upload an updated craft file that replaces it with the stock part.

Updated Craft File for the Kerbal XD

well, total transperency comes in the final vote.....but you've got a point. I could make it a closed poll, but then you guys would more or less have to tell me that you want to vote and your email, wich is a lot of additional labor.

You guys can see the results here...

@BlazeFallow: Well, allright, replace the link in your original post. I wont be able to change you .craft in the .zip file until tomorrow
