The Versatility Marathon Challenge

Recommended Posts

Honestly the hardest part is the shakedown run.

Oh and don't worry I am not trying to get my SVO-21 to be scored. I was just seeing if I could build a SSTO that could do everything or at least most of the things on the mission list.

I had one that could have done them all, but it was lost in the .21 to .22 upgrade.

Yeah, that's cool.

Dangit, I land there more than I doat the actual KSC, will have to get landing practice

I may have to get Kettysburg running soon so I can actually glide some distance, which Keburan simply has issues doing. At least Keburan is always recoverable

The distance you glide depends on how much lift your craft has. If you have something with a lot of lift, you can glide all the way to a nice landing with no engine power. A craft with low lift will fall like a brick.

Double check: You do not need to bring a lander up with the core module, it is an attachment

That is correct. If you do bring one up with it, then that lander must remain with the core craft at all times and can't be deorbited or otherwise removed permanently. It can be used for landings, but must always redock with the core ship and travel with it.

The issue is Keburan needs RCS assistance to land, she flies like a brick through the upper atmosphere and is nose heavy. I haven't landed her on the runway yet, but I have landed her close enough to use her huge RCS load to travel 10km to KSC and park on the runway, if that counts ;)

Yeah, that would not count. You have to have the wheels touch the runway and use the breaks to land. If it sets down anywhere else, then it's void of the points.

700NitroXpress,

Do the kerbals have to land on the moon(s) to get the Bring the Gang along for the ride bonus? I want to build a station that carries some extra kerbalnaughts if not.

P.S.

I really enjoy the development of your challenge, and appreciate your own challenge of being flexible to input and keeping it fair to others.

I'm building 'a cage' to capture my debris...is done.

Now I need to build a big brother version of cage to capture an Orange tank+Main Sail+Sr.Decoupler...that...is....big.

If you have the B-9 add on, the HL cargo bays would probably work well.

To answer your question: No they do not. This is one of those bonuses that's designed to mitigate the debris being left in space penalty. All of the additional kerbals have to be in their own pod or in hitchhiker storage bays. If you land the kerbals on the moons, then you get an additional bonus for the landings, but for bring the gang along for the ride, it's only bringing them with you and returning to LKO after the mission is complete.

I'm glad you like the challenge, I'm hoping to get a lot of people in on the challenge so feedback from everyone is great in fine tuning the challenge so everyone can participate.

Well, my mission 01 is finally completed.

Here: http://imgur.com/a/zkBnp#0

The screenshots may not all be in order.

Mission Complete = 150

Minmus satellites = 10

Mun satellites = 10

Extra satellites deployed = 20

Deploy ground rovers = 15

I know what I need = 25

Bring the Gang along for the ride = 10

My Mun Com Rover flipped over so I'm subtracting 5 points for that.

150+10+10+20+15+25+10 = 240

No debris left in orbit.

Total Score = 240

Congratulation on your mission success!...

Note: Recommend to use this ..http://sourceforge.net/projects/bulkimageconver/ to convert your file to .jpg (smaller size, faster upload, download etc.)

Is Friday here now...awaiting new mission!

Good job on deorbiting the debris, 30 points added to your score.

I have to refuel my ship now.

New mission will go up in 1 hour and 30 minutes!

Extreme EVA: Landed and returned to orbit without the aid of a spacecraft.

Use a EVA Kerbal's jet pack to land and return to the orbiting ship for Gilly.

Which means ...

While the science package does it's thing, head over to Gilly and investigate the surface with a small lander. Report your findings back to the command ship, then return to the command ship and dock.

Above is ignore! right?

No, you land your tiny lander craft on the surface of Gilly and return it to the command ship. If you do the Extreme EVA then you get extra points, but you still have to land a regular lander. The lander should have some science gear and a satellite dish.

Okay...so, 1 un-man lander to Gilly surface. Collect data, then back to command ship. Then EVA an Kerbal, down to Gilly, and back to command ship...

or.

1 manned lander to Gilly surface. Collect data, Kerbal EVA out, lander back to command ship. Then the landed Kerbal EVA back to command ship?

Only this one would be valid. You can land an unmanned lander and do an EVA Kerbal to the surface and back, but you can't land the Kerbal on the surface with the lander and then just go back separately.
