The story of MunBase-1

A new day had arrived on KSC and meetings were already taking place: the subject, An attempt to build the very first munbase in kerbal history! The information crackled through Jeb's radio who was busy preparing his EVA to the surface Duna. After spending a whole lot of days there together with Bill and Bob due to budgetary cuts and the plain lazy mission director who refused to launch a return mission.

Jeb thought it was a great idea but it really didn't matter how much he wanted to go there, it wouldn't make any changes to his situation. So he just replied to KSC that it was wonderfull news.

Some more months passes and Jeb Bill and Bob spent even more time on the Dunan surface boring themselves and waiting for a rover that was supposed to arrive a long time ago but missed the target by 120km and was roving ever since.

But meanwhile at the Space center back on kerbin the atmosphere was tense! T-minus ten, nine, eight, ..., three two one ignition! And we have a liftoff the launch director yelled out.

A recon unit with on board Haddos and Seery Kerman had just left with as mission: find a suitable place for setting up a munar base.

It's cool that we're going to the mun isn't it Seery, screamed Haddos trying to get his voice louder than the roaring of the powerfull mainsail engines. Yeah replied Seery, although i can't wait to get rid of some of those engines, because this sound isn't bearable! Just a few moments later the first stage decoupled, reducing the sound level to a more tolerable level. Some time later both kerbals were in orbit enjoying both the view and silence.

When do we have to get ready for our trans-munar-burn asked Seery. Haddos replied that the had a few more minutes of peace before they would have to get back to work. Haddos started reading his comics and Seery was dreaming away by the amazing view of kerbin. Haddos had brought a whole pile of KinKin comics, he was a big fan of captain Haddock! A small alarm sounded alarming the crew to get ready for there burn. This is Haddos Kerman, ready for burning. This is Seery, Same here! Mission control awnsered that everything looked good and the burn could soon begin.

Good day Crew you have about twenty seconds before your burn, those words sounded through the radio and both kermans were in position and Haddos' hand was ready to push the throttle. Okay, three two one fire engines! The two small LV-909 engines fired and started pushing them away from kerbin. Excited Seery? Asked Haddos. You have no idea Haddos, I don't really get why they chose us though, we were hired one day and the next we are fired to the mun! Haddos nodded and said thank god every kerbal has an astronaut built in!

Minutes later there burn was complete and they were on route to the Mun! Seery took a quick Eva to check the rovers hanging by the side of the craft. Looking good he said, oh man even by night kerbin still looks beatifull doesn't she! She sure does Haddos said. But you better get back in because we don't want to lose you in outer space, or even worse, get killed by the kraken! How so the kraken? Asked Seery. Well although many of us thought he is dead we have lost nearly a dozen ships ahead of us trying to reach Kerblab said Haddos. Are you sure it wasn't just faulty engineering Haddos? Well maybe but the engineer told me it was the kraken replied Haddos. So the guy who designs our rockets blaims the kraken (who is obviously dead), I don't know but that sounds like an excuse to me Seery quickly awsered. Well it would make more sense than the kraken Haddos awnsered with a small doubt in his voice. I really don't get why that guy isn't fired yet he must have caused hundreds of faulty missions by now!

Well he is the only guy on Kerbin who can actually design rockets! Seery awnsered. Yeah that's right but still! Remember that mission to laythe, only when landing they discovered that the landing gear was placed to high resulting in the fact that those kerbals are still stuck there, said Haddos. Yeah the engine that broke off and the lander that flipped over was really a failed end to the mission that would change history replied Seery, but anyway i'm getting kind of tired here. Yeah me too said Haddos, time to take a nap.

What will happen next time? Will there be any pictures?, Wil they land？, Will anything actually happen?

(Ps: i only started writing somewhere throughout this mission so no pics of this part yet, next parts will likely have pics though)

Sure. Your story has only been up for a day though so don't worry if it hasn't picked up any comments yet (apart from this one ). It's had a decent number of views, so I'd just put the second part up and see what happens.

One suggestion though if I may - put your characters' dialogue in speech marks. Like this:

Yeah i saw that yesterday to, i'll try to make the second part a whole lot easier to read with real dialogues etc...

A couple of hours later Haddos woke up, he looked out of his window and saw the moon as never before.

-Seery wake up!!

-what happend, did anything explode again?

- noooo, come check out this wonderfull view of the mun!!

-Ooooh my!! It's amazing! So big a craterish.

- hah just a few more hours till we reach it's surface

-but first, the circularization burn!

"This is mission control, how is it up there?" The sound came crackling through the radio. "We're fine up here" Seery replied, " how much time untill the burn?"

"You have about 10 minutes remaining, so i suggest you start prepping up" " sure thing Ksc, we're getting ready as you speak" Seery quickly awnsered.

-have we got any cookie's left Seery?

- i think so, check the snacks department, you'll find right out!

- oh damn, nothing in here but a note from Derk kerman: it says always check out the snack department before you leave!

- Damn Derk, now that Bill's gone, we have derk who eats every crum in the universe!

- I'll just sign it through to mission control okay?

-yeah fine!

"Hello Khouston, we have a problem: we're out of cookies, I repeat we're out of cookies!!!"

"This is mission control, did we get that right or are you guys out of cookies?"

" you got it right mission control"

" that's a disaster Haddos, how did it happen?"

"Derk eat them all, he left a note!"

"Well we'd say fire him but he's also..."

"...The engineer i know"

"I guess we'll have to survive without them then"

" I guess so folks, i'm really sorry for your loss"

Some time passes and it was time for the burn

-ready for the burn Haddos?

-yep, you too? How are the systems doing?

- everything is looking nominal right now.

- okay and a one, a two, a three: burn babyyy!!!

-Don't overdo it Haddos it's still a professional mission you know!

-it was just for once, and it ain't gonna kill us is it?

- I guess you're right

-okay, five seconds remaining! Two, one, done! We're in orbit seery

-Allright! Good work Haddos!

"This is mission control again, we are getting data that you are now in stable orbit around the mun, can you confirm that?"

"That's right KSC we are in orbit" Seery awnsered

" okay, we have chosen a landing site for you guys, it's calles the saturnian highlands and it has some really interesting terrain"

" okay MC setting course for the highlands!"

After some more burning and time passing by, Mun-1 was only 30 km above the surface and ready to start the breaking.

-this is Seery, all set!

- Haddos here, All set!

" mission control here: you will need to burn at half thrust till about 15km up, then slowly start raising the throttle"

"Copy that MC"

Some mire time passed and Mun-1 was now about to touch down on the mun's surface.

-Okay moving at 2m/s, what's our height Seery?

- we have 20 meters to go, keep her steady Haddos, we don't want any trouble now!

-okay we are really close now, moving at 0.5m/s and ready to land!

- Okay haddos 5m to go, ...

Plof, the lander touches down on the dusty surface

"This is Haddos, the Hummingbird has landed!"

" good job crew, you can detach the rovers now"

"Okay MC doing that now"

Click, the rovers slowly fell towards the surface

- Hey Haddos you did remember to activate the parking brake right?

- What parking brake?

- Oh fack Haddos c'mon

" this is Seery, i'm doing an EVA to recover the rovers"

" allright seery go ahead"

-opening the hatch now, ... My god it's so barren, it looks so dead!

- Hurry Seery those rovers won't bring themselves back!

-Shut up, you forgot the handbrake so don't hush me!

- Sorry Seery i'm just kinda tense

" it's one small step for a kerbal, but it seems those rovers take some way bigger steps!"

" go get em Seery!" Mc replied

- I nearly got one! Trying to board, (crack boom ouch!)

-Seery what happend?

-nothing bad i stumbled' i'm fine!

-glad to here that Seery

- damn one flipped over, I can't seem to get it upright again

- Leave it seery, before you get hurt

- okay Haddos, i've got the second one, returning to base now!

-good job Seery, I'll get ready for the propaganda picture then, see you at the base!

- Okay Haddos, i'll be right there!
