Russia mulls creation of new super-heavy carrier rocket

"On the 25th anniversary of the historic flight of the Soviet space shuttle Buran, Russia's Roscosmos space agency has formed a working group to prepare "within weeks" a roadmap for the revival of the Energia super-heavy booster rocket."

Is this legit? Or did they just get nostalgic looking at old photos?

Russia has started a lot of spacecraft/rocket projects in last 10 years and didn't finish almost any (except Angara), neither can we see much progress in the ongoing projects

Rather like the SLS, what would you actually use a 130 ton launcher for ?

Having the capability is great, but with no manned moon or Mars missions planned it is massively overpowered. Only possible mission I can envisage getting a green light needing that kind of payload capability would be a future Mars sample return probe

This *IS* legit, and it might actually happen. Russia's economy is on the rebound due to lucrative oil exports...

The real brutal rockets only justify brutal finance programs,,, that expense will be covered because the last ENERGIA lost heavy quantities of money and 18 years of develop of the program when was cancelled.

Technically all go to the trash... is a sad history post 1989, the soviets discovered the shuttle is not cheap form to put thing in the space.
