Docking ports and action groups

Recommended Posts

I am not sure I totally understand docking ports combined with action groups. In the action group settings of the Clamp-O-Tron, there seem to be two options:

Undock node

Decouple Node

Undock seems to, well, undock the attached docking port. Decouple node seems to do nothing.

What does it do?

Also, when I set my docking port to an action group (ie. ag2), it only works the first time:

- When I start docked and use the action group to undock, it works once and only once.

- When I redock, the action group does not work. It does not even show rightclick > Undock anymore.

- When I start undocked, dock and try to undock, the action group does not work, no rightclick > Undock.

All my other action groups function fine before and after docking. It it just the undocking itself that is problematic. How can I make sure that I am able to undock with an action group multiple times?

Decouple acts as a decoupler which means it disconnects connections other than docked ones. Undock only disconnects docked connections (docking part to docking part). I don't know if you put two docking parts together in editor if it needs undock or decouple.

Since a docking part only can connect to one thing in one way, put both commands on the action group so no matter how it's connected, it will come apart on that action group.

Since two docking parts are needed to dock, only one of them gets the "undock" command since it is the master of the connection.

Try the ActionsOnTheFly mod to assign action groups in space.

If you attach another docking port to a docking port, then you want Undock Node. If you attach something without a docking port to a docking port, then you want Decouple Node. These action groups are most useful with Undock node. I use it mainly as an action group for anything that has more than one docking port docked at one time that needs to be undocked together. Mainly for ships with two docking ports that need to undock at the same time. Decouple turns into undock when you have it in space and you right click on the docking port. You can undock something that doesn't have a docking port.
