[MOD CRAFT] Kethane Mining Rigs , stations and crafts Megathread

Goodle...

Recommended Posts

Hello, guys. Kethane pack had been a extremely popular pack in KSP, and rigs are more than common crafts used to extract it. So, here i make a common space for all kethane miners to share their rigs and planetary scanner crafts. If you have any, please post pics and tell us all about it. craft file recommended.

My crafts: The small and large miner tandem. (will get you guys pics soon)

The small miner is a light vehicle that acts as a miner and a scanner. It uses 2 radial drills and is equipped with a medium scanner. Field experiments prove that they are effective and versatile. They can drain huge fields on the moon if used correctly and well. The large miner is a unmanned miner used to mine away tonnes of kethane and process it in one go. It has docking capabilities.

Here are two of my more recent additions.

SVO-19, not going to give out its craft file not quite happy with it yet.

It can mine and process its own Kethane, and make it to the Mun without refueling. Unfortunately I did not install a Kethane scanner, and it has some stability issues I am working out. But otherwise flies fine in atmosphere.

And the newest in my VTOL Space plane line or SVO line as I call them.... SVO-23

It is far more stable than the SVO-19, but still can mine and process its own Kethane fuel amount. But is still in its testing phase, currently it can achieve a 100km x 100km orbit with fuel to spare.

My latest trend has been build smaller craft. But I am finding that the bigger more robust craft I built earlier in the line, like the SVO-9A that is pictured leaving Ike in my previous post, was one of my best if not complex designs. There was literally nothing it couldn't do. But it was horribly unstable on re-entry with Kerbins atmosphere due to its short design. I may go back and improve on the concept with a longer more stable design and attempt another shot at Ike and Dres.

Okay I am not adept enough at landing to reliably bring craft down onto minimus, and mechjeb is cranky when plotting Minimus intercepts so I decided to go for the Mun instead;

1st kethane mining unit on the Mun.

And the mining unit with a refinery attached. Just need to get some fuel tanks down there and then it's time to design a ferry to get that sweet sweet fuel up to Munar orbit and to my refueling depot.

Anyone know of an easier way to attach modules to each other than docking ports? I know there is a MOD out there that allows you to use hoses and such but for the life of me cannot find it.

Intercepting Minimus is pretty easy once you figure it out, I don't use Mechjeb for that reason. But it has its merits.

And that mod you are looking for is the KAS Mod.
