First probe to Gilly

Odo

Recommended Posts

I finally got my first probe to Gilly. Something I was never capable of doing in sandbox mode, simply because of how terrifyingly eleptical its orbit was, but the scientists at KSC assured us that since Eve was wealthy with science, its little brother Gilly would be too! After all, thats how it works ya know

So the engineers began work on THEO. The probe to land and then reorbit Gilly, powered by 1 ion engine, 1 RTG and 4 solar panels, it's a masterpiece of its age! (Aka my first probe to use an Ion engine)

Im not going to show pictures of launch or transfer to Eve as thats fairly standard, but I will include an image of the launch vehicle soon.

Very nice! Now if only I could stop launching mine into orbit around Kirbin instead of half way between it and Duna. (I think it might be because I run out of fuel/power about half way through a planned burn that should put me into orbit, accidentally slingshot myself into space)

If you have Docking Ports, try to get it in orbit of Kerbin, open the Solar Panels if any, which their should be :P, so it can recharge, then build another rocket that may definitely have more fuel or a stage or two for the probe, have it dock with the probe (have fun, F5 to quick save if you get to that part tho, then you can Load your quick save to practice!!) and then walla, off to Duna.

Good job :) Everytime i see such a tiny, neat probe i'm almost tempted to give ion engine another chance. Almost :P

I wouldnt suggest it haha. This is the only time Ive used Ion engines, and they were only really useable because of Gilly's micro gravity.
