How do you take your rovers along?

I normally send them ahead of the manned mission, which I leave in orbit until the rover is put down on the surface close to a suspected ideal landing site with a sky crane.

Then I use it to scout out a nice, flat site and function as a marker for the landing. I put a few seats on it of course, so the guys can have some fun while on the surface ;)
