Welcome to Andrew Hansen's KSP Channel!

Frequently Asked Questions:

So... tell me about your channel.

This channel is 99% dedicated to producing high-quality, short, edited videos of

skills luck,
,
,
, and
among other things.

How long are your videos, generally?

My videos

, and when they do, they're probably worth watching. For an episode of a series like
, I try to keep the videos longer than five minutes but less than seven. I value your time, and I make sure that there's no blank space in my videos. I also speed through repetitive parts (like launching rockets from Kerbin) really, really fast to get to the more exciting stuff, like being on other planets.

Are your videos boring?

Well, that's up to you to decide, but I definitely try my best to make sure they're not! I have a dry sense of humor that often gets expressed in my videos. I'm always trying out new things as well, and I value my subscribers' feedback.

Do you use mods?

Yes, I do use mods, but not many of them. I mainly use functionality mods and stick to stock parts, but sometimes I'll use a few part mods (in my Colonizing Tylo series, I use Kethane and KAS). I don't want to use too many mods because then less KSP players will be able to understand what's going on, whereas if I use stock parts, everyone who owns KSP will know what I'm doing. If I do use mods, I prefer to use one or two part packs at a time.

What's your posting schedule?

I value quality over quantity, so I post less videos, but they're higher quality. That means I post a video around a once per week (or less than that) during school, and a video every four to five days in the summer.

Hey everyone,

Again, the next video is taking some time to release. Besides having some issues with my VTOL SSTO that's supposed to be able to land and return from Minmus :sticktongue:, I am looking for ways to improve the FPS of my videos. I have decided that CamStudio has served its purpose and I must invest in a better recording software now. In the upcoming video (episode 6 of Colonizing Kerbin's Moons), I'll invite you to share your opinions on what software I should buy.

Currently I'm quite interested in Bandicam, but if you have a reason why FRAPS or some other program is better (or a way to make CamStudio use graphics acceleration ), then please let me know.

Also, expect to see a change in the types of videos I release. From my analytics in YouTube it appears that people enjoy watching short videos about hard challenges and insane piloting skills more than series in which I attempt to colonize the solar system. Still, I'll finish up my existing series (perhaps in two more videos) before moving on.

How to Build a VTOL SSTO with B9 Aerospace

Recently I made a video of me sending a VTOL SSTO (vertical take-off and landing, single stage to orbit) off to Minmus. In this video tutorial I show what's involved in making a VTOL SSTO with B9 Aerospace and stock parts in Kerbal Space Program.

As far as "behind-the-scenes" stuff goes, this video was created with Adobe Premiere Pro and features: 2.5x sped up sections of the video (with audio still intact), new transitions, and fancy text at the end of the video.

Landing a Plane (horizontally) on Minmus

In this video I attempt to land a plane on Minmus. Now, it's easy to land a plane on Minmus, but the catch is that I'm performing a horizontal landing like a normal airplane and doing it over 100 m/s. Will I survive? Watch the video to find out.

Also, I apologize that there's been no episode 8 of "Colonizing Kerbin's Moons." Unfortunately, an error occured with my old copy of Kerbal Space Program and I was unable to load the save. When copying it over to 0.23, however, the base didn't load because a bunch of mods were not updated and were missing (most importantly, B9 Aerospace).

By the way, once B9 Aerospace is updated I'm pretty sure I'll make an episode 8 of Colonizing Kerbin's Moons. But until then, I'll post other fun stuff - like landing on Tylo with ion engines (from the NearFuture mod).

Landing an Ion-Powered Craft on Tylo

In this video I attempt to land (well, actually, I do land successfully) on Tylo with ion engines. Of course, the stock ion engines don't have the power to land on Tylo, so I'm using some inefficient-but-powerful engines from the NearFuture mod to help me land.

Nice series, I subscribed to your channel

Why thanks! I really appreciate it. Anyway, back to the real reason I'm posting here....

Kerbal Space Program - The Game

This cinematic was created using Persistent Trails, Kerbcam, HyperEdit, and stock example crafts in Kerbal Space Program 0.23.

Stock VTOL Rover/Boat SSTO in Kerbal Space Program

Presenting... a helicopter, plane, rocket, car, and boat all in one vehicle! This "Go Anywhere Machine" was built after someone challenged me to build a craft like this on my forum challenge submission thread.

Jeb Goes to Tylo

As you might know, Jeb isn't the type of Kerbal who carefully plans out his missions. And this mission is no different... but the little green guy manages to pull off a return to Kerbin after some hair-raising EVA flying skills!

Anyway, I'm really proud of what went into the making of this video. This is a new standard of quality on my channel, featuring an intro, high quality edited audio (made amazing with Audacity), scripted commentary, new video-editing quirks, and a fancy closing animation.

VTOL Duna SSTO

This craft was built in KSP v0.23 and has the ability to take off from Kerbin, fly to Duna, and return without refueling. It's completely stock, and like all my designs, has no part-clipping. It's 95 parts, but most of that is air intakes. Be warned that its fuel budget is pretty slim, but a good pilot should be able to take it to Duna and back. Click here to download!

Indestructible Rover (Invincib-13)

The stock Invincib-13 rover is not exactly invincible, but it's a pretty robust and durable rover nonetheless. It comes in three variants - the Luxury Edition, the Science Edition, and the Tough Edition.

Colonizing Tylo (E01) - Kethane Station

Presenting... a new series in which I build a base on Tylo! Why would anyone do such a thing? Just for the challenge.

In this series I'll be using mostly stock parts, but also a few mods like Kethane and Kerbal Attachment System to make things more interesting.

Colonizing Tylo (E03) - Tylo Delivery Plane

Since I haven't posted a video for a super long time, this one is extra special! In this video I fly a spaceplane from Kerbin to Tylo and deliver a ferry to transport Kerbals to and from the surface. Then I return the spaceplane to Kerbin - almost legitimately. Click here to download the Tylo Delivery Plane!

Colonizing Tylo (E04) - Giant Luxurious Rover

This episode features giant rockets, awesome explosions, and timelapsed driving footage.

This video also has two new fancy things that will be added to all my future videos: frame blending (also known as motion blur) and de-essing on my commentary (to make the "S" sounds less loud). Speaking of loudness, I drastically reduced the volume of the background music so that my voice can be heard more easily.

2 Ton Lander to the Mun and Back

Partially by exploiting a glitch, and partially by luck, I went to the Mun and back with a lander that weighed less than two tons! How? By leaving parachutes behind and landing the Kerbal by himself.

Also, just a quick apology about the commentary - I was too lazy to create a scripted one, so it's not as high quality as it might otherwise be. Oh well!

I've decided to beautify my KSP experience with Environmental Visual Enhancements, BetterAtmospheres, and HotRockets FX.
