Stargates (Late game orbital construction)

Recommended Posts

What you're suggesting here is like a helicopter and a plane in a game that's set in the Renaissance simply because the concepts for it have existed back then.

If getting to another solar system is the point, it would be more sensible if it were like the science victory in Civilization games, where you have to assemble a spaceship capable of reaching another star (I wonder why they don't start with other planets?), and after that the credits roll.

And then you start a new game in that newly unlocked solar system.

I don't completely hate the idea of being able to establish a device which would teleport a ship from one orbit to another. If you were able to transfer it from KSP to some distant planet or moon you have proven you can do all necessary transfer burns. It will just allow you to skip doing them over and over again if you want to concentrate on more complex tasks than time warping to the nearest launch window or through the interplanetary transfer.

But even when you do it over and over again, it is diferent, isn't it?

I mean, it's not into the same level of complexity, launching a rover to Duna, than launching a manned mobile base. With stargates teleportation you can skip lots of stages and need much more less Delta-V, wich makes those complex tasks a lot easier.

By the way, I wouldn't mind to see something like the KSP Interestellar mod, wich I think it's not so overpowered and adds "acceptable" scientific advances, like Alcubierre Drives.

The point would be to have an alternative way of travel other than push yourself somewhere. Something different, not just for it making. Maybe it could be limited to 1 tech, or an exclusive tech, it's not meant to ease things as much as to diversify, like everything else in this game.
