Pinhole Marksman Challenge

Recommended Posts

I updated the first post accordingly...

Actually i just read that you used cheats to place the pinhole, which of course is against the rules. But i'm not ready to disqualify my only participant because of a technicality, still future participants should try to avoid that, in my opinion placing the pinhole in a good spot is also part of the challenge....

I understand how you feel. Although I landed the pinhole on the Mun entirely without cheats, I wanted to make it look neat by putting it on top of a Mun Arch, so I used Hack Gravity to make it easier. I will post a short video of me placing it on the Mun Arch without using any cheats.

EDIT: Here's the video:

So, i had a couple of hours free time and (finally) made a submission to my own challenge.

See the video below as proof, skip to 1:00 to see me going through the hole...

While the game still began stuttering once i came close to the hole there were no weird physics glitches this time. I hope, now that you know it is indeed possible, some people will consider competing in this challenge...

Congratulations! I'm tempted to have another go at it. You did it on Minmus... I do have a feeling that would be easier, so if I try it again, I'll do it there. :)

EDIT: I don't believe I will be making another submission. I'm kind of busy. Just wanted to let you know so you wouldn't be expecting something that wasn't coming. Great job anyway!

Hi there !

I am the author of the video in the second post.

Just to clarify : the only "cheat" used was mechjeb to see useful numbers like the altitude to ground and the orbital period.

The wheels on my gate were of course used at the beginning to put it exactly at the equator.

It was a huge pain in the a** to land and manoeuvre it due to the low gravity, that thing was just asking to tip in any direction. Next to that adjusting the orbit was easy.

Your challenge is definitely achievable. The larger diameter of my pinhole made it easier to cross it 15 times in a row without corrections.

I guess if you just need one pass trough it you can make it much smaller.
