Space simulators?

Does anyone know about any good space sims except KSP and Orbiter?

Please note that I want a simulator, i.e. no mmorpg crap.

Here are the things I wanna know:

About what specs are required?

How are the graphics?

Can you build your own stuff?

2D or 3D?

What does it cost?

Are there other planets?

Does it have realistic orbital physics?

Two words. Space Engineers.

Build stuff. Check.

3d. Check.

Graphics good. Really good. Check.

Specs required. See steam store page. Nothing extravagant. Check.

Awesome looking game with HUUUUUGE potential. Check.

You're welcome.

I'd suggest Space Engine. http://en.spaceengine.org/

1. A good graphics card is important, though I can run it with my Nvidia GeForce 9700.

2. Stunningly beautiful. Just look at the gallery at the website.

3. Not quite, but you can mod in your own spacecraft.

4. 3D.

5. It's completely free of charge.

6. Yes. Because it simulates the entire universe there's a quite big amount of planets to explore. :sticktongue:

7. Spacecraft are in early testing, so the orbital physics aren't very good.

I suggest you check it out.

This is one I might consider, but first; what's the point? If you can't land on other planets and stuff like that, what is there to do?

I can't believe I am the first to mention Orbiter. I think it is quite a hardcore simulator.

- The required specifications are not really high, I believe.

- They are not horrible, not great. They can be modded to be better.

- No, unless you build a modcraft yourself.

- 3D.

- Zip. Nada. Bupkis. Zero. Nothing.

- Yes.

- Very much so. Prepare for a little more challenge than in KSP.

Very few Space "Simulators" as its a very niche market and orbiter fills most of it.

Universe sandbox is an interesting on.

A good one to try is space engine (free)

A quick google search on these will answer all your questions

Could you answer the questions in the OP?

About what specs are required?

If your computer can run KSP, you can run this no problem.

How are the graphics?

Decent. Spheres mostly, detailed textures.

Can you build your own stuff?

Yes. You can make custom planets/suns/moons/comets, adjust existing orbital conditions

2D or 3D?

3D

What does it cost?

$20, probably cheaper if there's a sale

Are there other planets?

All solar system planets, and any new custom ones you want

Does it have realistic orbital physics?

Yes. Probably some small errors over a period of 1000's years

Evochron Mercenary. It's more of a futuristic space flight sim with combat. But..

I got it for like $10 on steam awhile back, but I think its free now. You have massive customization options and upgrade options. Great 3d graphics and you can fly from a station down, to the planet, into the atmosphere and touch the surface. All the while watching your speed ( too fast in atmosphere and your dead ) and collecting resources. All without a single load screen. As far as physics go it simulates D/v and Newt physics quite well. I'm not sure you can actually orbit a planet though. Escape speeds are very easy to achieve.

The only downside is the learning curve and lack of documentation to quell said curve.
