Solution for memory crashes?

Recommended Posts

Anybody using mods might know what I'm talking about. Right now my Gamedata folder is 1.34 gb. Apperantly KSP can handle up to 2gb of memory but I guess that isn't true when it crashes at only 1.3 gb. I was wondering if there isn't a temporary solution for this problem because KSP is so much more awesome with mods.

I know that when Unity some time in the future (hopefully) switches to 64 bit this problem will be resolved. But with the ever expanding list of mods to choose from isn't there some temporary solution squad can implement to crank up the memory?

Yeah that's great... But I don't use Linux, and I'm pretty sure the majority of KSP players don't either.

Pretty sure this is on the do not suggest list. If it's not, it should be. The devs have also made note of the fact that they are working with the Unity people to improve both the game and the engine. Right now, IIRC, 64-bit compiles under Windows are unstable so it's not possible just yet, but I'm sure they're working hard on it because ~griping~.

I'm not asking for 64 bit, I know that comes when it comes. I'm asking, if possible, for a temporary solution right now so you can use more than 1 part pack for instance.

You were asking for solutions. There are two: install Linux as dual boot beside your current system and play 64-bit version, or uninstall some mods. Or wait till Unity fixes all its 64-bit issues.

There are also multiple memory-requirement-reducing mods available, OP. A search of the forums should provide you with plenty of options.

I'm using more than one and I don't have any issues. Hell, I packed on KW Rocketry and B9 Aerospace plus some ten other smaller parts packs with no issues. Sounds like you've got bigger problems than KSP's memory usage.

If there is no other solutions than that, which I would rather hear from Squad, then I'll rest my case. But I can hardly imagine that if Squad looked into this there wouldn't be some way to enlarge the memory even by a little, say 400 mb.

That gibberish doesn't mean anything if your KSP install can't handle more than one part package, especially seeing as how my i3 laptop apparently works better than your high-end gaming machine by being able to load and run with multiple parts packs and other assorted mods. I have the distinct feeling you're leaving out some other part of the picture and complaining about issues that are resolvable on your end.

Regardless it does not debunk my point. There are lots of modders out there just not getting the attention they deserve because everybody's game is already overloaded with KW, B9, Lionhead etc.

You have those three installed? I thought you only had one part pack installed... Anyway, KW and B9 have modder-supplied memory reduction solutions, I suggest you do a search for those. You could also try searching for the SQUAD stock texture reduction pack by PoleCatEZ (IIRC). That will help immensely since SQUAD's parts and textures are the biggest hogs of memory; perhaps we'll see SQUAD themselves do that as an optimization in 0.23.

I am going to close this thread because:

- there isn't a real suggestion on it

- it's going toward a discussion that doesn't bring anything forward.

Now as of memory optimization, Squad is aware of it, and is working on it. .23 will have even more optimization done, may be there is some memory ones in it.

A fair bit of time ago (just before .22), on the squadcast, they said they don't want to work on temporary solution or increasing the memory available as it won't have any effect on low en pc. They want to find solution to actually reduce their memory usage so ALL computer will be able to see the optimization.

Edit: it may be Episode 3 Squadcast with Mu
