You'd probably have to restrut the outside to make it more solid, but I don't see why this couldn't be done.

I'd use UbioZur's welding mod, which would also solve a few other issues.

He made an eloquent thread about coffee and regret that documented his progression in KSP. Normal players tend to build bigger and bigger until they get the basics, after which they start to focus on part efficiency. Whackjob learned the basics and opted to use that knowledge to build even bigger rockets.

That, coupled with his strangely competent computer (Seriously, I imagine it is cooled with liquid nitrogen and takes up half a room or something) has led to some truly glorious monstrosities.
