Wings not lifting in the same direction

Recommended Posts

As above really... whenever i attach wings to my space planes, the ones at the front go down while the ones at the back go up. which makes it a tricky.... female dog to take off. i cannot remember having that problem before. i started playing when the game was on version 21 or something. I've tried every wing, and still the same... fornicating problem. but, i do manage to get up in the sky, mostly. just landing and taking off again is not an option, i miss that option! is it fixable or is that just the way it is?

If you are attaching wings on opposite sides this can happen (i.e you attach symmetrical wings on one side then flip your camera to the other side and attach symmetrical wings) If you stay on the same side of your aircraft when attaching parts this shouldn't be an issue.

the ones at the front go down while the ones at the back go up.

That's probably because they are on opposite side of the CoM.

Your controls are not "up down left right" - they're "pitch roll yaw throttle." Pressing "D" will try to pitch your craft up, which means the front goes up and the back goes down. The "wings" move accordingly to provide that turning force.

did that, still the same problem. i forgot to mention this last night, well this morning to be exact, but when i press Q and E to do rolls, both wings move up or down as if i was pressing W or S to go up or down.

I assume "both" meaning both front and back, not opposite sides? Pressing Q ought to have the flaps on the left side go up and the flaps on the right go down.

With the new Tweakables feature, you can disable one of the wings for pitching and that might help, but a redesign might be in order.

A picture would be useful, especially with the CoM and CoL markers.

i don't mind people trying to help, i really don't. but abbreviations makes my brain scream. mmkay? 5C3B15A38E34B2B0CF1B9D862C36AD94B6EC0BBB

I have never had any problems with this before, at least not to my memory. before the update all i had to do was attach the bloody wings, no such thing as "one wing only fits on that and with that setting" thing. i doubt these pictures can be of any help:P i might as well just stick to space travel instead. even though i can no longer horde science points with any of the sciency things i've unlocked *mumble grumble*

My guess would be you have too much drag forward of the center of mass due to the parachutes, or too much on the top. They tend to be far more stable if you put all intakes at the far back end, and balance the bottom and top drag with center of thrust.

If you have liftoff problems, I would move the gear to the end of the wings. Many of my planes crash into the runway if I do not do this, but fly well if I can lift off (a small roll due to SAS [automatic heading] correction becomes a large roll once stress on the landing gear becomes uneven.) If you are really sure it is balanced, try turning SAS off during takeoff... I have quite a few that will take off easily and without problem, but crash into the runway if I have SAS on.

You also have an unbalanced goo pod, which will cause roll. This is probably catastrophic due to the central landing gear.

EDIT: The wings going in different directions is expected, as they have control surfaces.

yup! that worked. and putting the wings further back worked too, well semi worked. but still. too much stuff on it that causes drag.. *mumbles* need to read the description of things. *grumble* drag queens. *giggle mumble*

thanks for the information! :)

removed everything but the wings, and two solar panels and a battery. but STILL a problem with the wing at the front "bending the wrong way" but, i think i already have the answer to that: the plane body is to long, shorter body and no problem when the wings are close together, at the rear, but to close to the front and the game won't recognize the wing, it seems to mirror the wing instead. don't know why, but there you are.

There are two buttons at the bottom you want to look at for wing placement, Center of Mass (CoM) and Center of Lift (CoL).

You usually want the center of mass to be slightly ahead of the center of lift, the higher the thrust to weight ratio (TWR), the further back the center of lift should be. If you put too much thrust on a plane you may want to consider building a rocket instead (or are going for orbital speed as in a single stage to orbit [sSTO]).

Jet engines are decent for small or medium size rockets too, just clamp the rocket down and let them spin up to full thrust before you release.
